Advanced Protective Sun Lotion

SPF 50+

Formulated For

This product is suitable for skin presenting with:

Melasma and hyperpigmentation. UV is the single most reliable driver of the pigment every other product in the system is working to correct. Photoprotection is not an adjunct to a pigment protocol, it is a component of it.

Post inflammatory hyperpigmentation. Marks left after acne, injury or irritation darken further with exposure and resolve more slowly without protection.

Skin using acids, peptides or pigment actives. Required alongside the Cell Turnover Toner, the PWR Multi Peptide Serum and the Luminous Renewal Complex Cream.

Sensitive and reactive skin. Formulated with bisabolol and allantoin against the discomfort and visible redness that follow exposure.

Photoageing. The cumulative loss of clarity, texture and elasticity produced by long term UVA exposure rather than by burning.

Formulated for use across all Fitzpatrick phototypes, the classification scale from I to VI describing how skin responds to UV exposure. Deeper phototypes burn less readily and are frequently told they need less protection. In pigmentary terms the opposite is true, because the melanocyte response to UV is more active, not less.

Placement in the routine. Final step of the morning routine, after the Luminous Renewal Complex Cream. Applied generously. Under application is the most common reason a high factor sunscreen delivers a fraction of its stated protection.

Reapplication. Every two hours during exposure, and after swimming or sweating. Sunscreen is consumed as it works.

Formulation Architecture

A sunscreen is a filter system in a delivery base, and the two are not separable. A filter only protects the area it covers, at the film thickness it was tested at. Everything in the base exists to get an even, stable, uninterrupted film onto the skin and keep it there.

For pigmented skin there is a second consideration. Sunscreen is the product people abandon first, and the reason is almost always sensory rather than principled. A formula that is uncomfortable is a formula that does not get worn, and a sunscreen that is not worn has no efficacy at any factor.

The Filter System

Butyl Methoxydibenzoylmethane

Better known as avobenzone, and the primary UVA filter in this formula. UVA is the long wavelength fraction that penetrates deepest, reaching the dermis and the melanocytes, and it is the fraction most directly implicated in pigmentation and photoageing rather than in burning. Avobenzone absorbs a photon of UVA energy and converts it to a negligible amount of heat, returning to its ground state to absorb again.

Ethylhexyl Methoxycinnamate

A UVB filter, absorbing in the 290 to 320 nanometre range. UVB is the shorter, higher energy fraction responsible for burning and for direct DNA damage in the epidermis.

Octocrylene

A UVB filter in its own right, but its more important function here is structural. Avobenzone degrades under UV exposure, losing a meaningful proportion of its absorbing capacity within the first hours of sun exposure. Octocrylene acts as a photostabiliser: it accepts the excited state energy from avobenzone and dissipates it, allowing the avobenzone molecule to return to ground state intact rather than breaking down. Without a stabiliser, a UVA filter degrades precisely when it is being used.

Soothing and Antioxidant Support

Filters absorb the majority of incident UV. They do not absorb all of it, and the fraction that reaches the skin generates reactive oxygen species. An antioxidant layer addresses what the filters let through.

Bisabolol

The principal active constituent of chamomile, here in isolated form. Documented for anti irritant activity and for reducing the visible redness response.

Allantoin

A skin protectant that forms complexes with irritant molecules, reducing their capacity to provoke a reaction, while supporting the shedding of surface cells.

Dimethyl Sulfone (MSM)

An organosulfur compound and a bioavailable sulfur donor. Sulfur is required for cysteine, and cysteine is the rate limiting building block of glutathione, the body’s principal intracellular antioxidant. Within melanogenesis, thiol compounds act at the branch point determining whether the pigment produced is darker eumelanin or lighter pheomelanin.

Scutellaria Baicalensis Root Extract (Huang Qin)

Supplies baicalin and baicalein, flavone glycosides documented for free radical scavenging and for inhibition of inflammatory signalling cascades.

Sophora Angustifolia Root Extract (Ku Shen)

Contains prenylated flavonoids including kurarinone, and the alkaloid matrine. The flavonoid fraction shows direct tyrosinase inhibitory activity in vitro.

Ledebouriella Divaricata Root Extract (Fang Feng, Saposhnikovia)

A chromone rich root supplying prim-O-glucosylcimifugin and 4’-O-β-D-glucosyl-5-O-methylvisamminol. Used in TCM to address wind heat patterns. Its chromone constituents are studied for anti inflammatory activity.

Eclipta Prostrata Extract (Han Lian Cao)

Source of wedelolactone, a coumestan with documented antioxidant and enzyme modulating activity. In TCM it is a kidney and liver yin tonic, the organ systems classically implicated in chronic facial pigmentation.

Calendula Officinalis Flower Extract

Faradiol triterpenoid esters, the constituents responsible for its documented skin conditioning and soothing activity.

The botanical set is the same one carried through the Cell Turnover Toner and the Luminous Renewal Complex Cream. That is deliberate. A system built on a consistent botanical architecture compounds across the routine rather than presenting the skin with a different set of inputs at every step.

The Delivery Base

Lecithin

A phospholipid, the same class of molecule that forms cell membranes. Here it emulsifies the oil soluble filters into the water phase and contributes to the evenness of the film that forms as the product dries. Film uniformity determines whether stated protection is achieved in practice.

Carbomer, Xanthan Gum

The rheology system, holding the filters evenly suspended so that dose is consistent and no part of the applied film is under protected.

Glycerin, Butylene Glycol, Propylene Glycol

Humectants drawing and holding water in the stratum corneum, and carriers for the water soluble portion of the formula. They also govern how the product spreads and how it feels, which is the practical determinant of whether it is used daily.

Arginine

An amino acid component of the skin’s own natural moisturising factor, which also contributes to pH adjustment of the finished formula.

Formulation Integrity

Hydroxyacetophenone, 1,2-Hexanediol, Phenoxyethanol

The preservative and antioxidant system, protecting a water containing formula that is routinely opened with wet hands and stored in warm conditions.

Can I use the products during pregnancy or breastfeeding?

Ingredient suitability can vary during pregnancy and breastfeeding. Check the full ingredient list and speak with an appropriate healthcare professional before using products containing active ingredients if you are unsure.

Where can I find the full ingredients for a product?

The ingredients are listed on the individual product page and/or product packaging. Always check the latest packaging for the most current ingredient information.

How should I store Skin Consult products?

Keep products tightly closed and stored in a cool, dry place away from excessive heat, moisture, and direct sunlight unless the packaging states otherwise.

What makes Skin Consult different?

We look beyond the surface and consider the wider story behind your skin before recommending a personalised plan.

How do I choose the right Skin Consult product for my skin concern?

Each product is designed around specific concerns such as hyperpigmentation, dullness, ageing, uneven skin tone, barrier support, hydration, and overall skin wellness. Check the product description, key benefits, and recommended use before choosing the product that best matches your concern.

How long does it take to see results?

Results vary depending on the product, your skin condition, consistency of use, and individual response. Skincare usually works best when used consistently as directed over several weeks.

Can I use more than one Skin Consult product in the same routine?

Yes, many of our products are designed to complement one another. Always follow the recommended order of application and avoid introducing too many active products at the same time.

How should I introduce a new skincare product?

Introduce one new product at a time and begin gradually, particularly with products containing active ingredients. This makes it easier to monitor how your skin responds.

Should I patch test products before use?

Yes. We recommend patch testing a new topical skincare product before applying it to the full face, particularly if you have sensitive or reactive skin.

Can I use these products on sensitive skin?

Suitability depends on the individual formula and your skin. Always check the product information and ingredient list, patch test first, and discontinue use if irritation occurs.

What order should I apply my skincare products?

As a general guide, start with cleansing, followed by lighter treatments or serums, moisturising products, and sunscreen during the daytime. Always follow any product-specific directions provided.

Do I need sunscreen while using Skin Consult skincare?

Daily sun protection is an important part of a skincare routine, especially when targeting pigmentation, uneven tone, signs of ageing, or when using active skincare ingredients.
